ABP DIVESTMENT CAMPAIGN
Different groups are taking action to make ABP, the pension fund of government and education institutions, divest from fossil fuels. Currently they invest 17.4 billion euros in fossil fuels, besides financing companies that are responsible for the deforestation of the Amazon forest, mainly in Brazil for cattle ranching and soy. Thousands of workers across the Netherlands already say no to these investments, it’s time to end this. See more information on our facts page.
- Get informed, read and share the open letter sent by multiple of groups in Latin America to denounce the destruction caused by fracking on their indigenous lands, damaging their health, land, livelihoods and lives. If fracking is banned here, why is it allowed there?
- Get involved and informed about the actions in collaboration with Fossielvrij NL, Extinction Rebellion, Code Rood and other groups! Check out: 25th of June by Fossielvrij, 5th of July occupying ABP’s building
UNIVERSITIES CUT TIES WITH THE FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRY AND SHELL
The universities of the Netherlands have different connections to the fossil fuel industry, mainly with Royal Dutch Shell – guest lecturers, invitations to interviews and career events, funding for (greenwashing) research. We say it clearly: it is not ethical to promote and conduct research with one of the top 10 climate polluters in the world who have no real plan for phasing out from fossil fuels, and who commit violation of human rights. These ties legitimize the harmful doings of companies like Shell, improving their public perception and strengthening their influence – we don’t want to have any part in this!
