The universities of the Netherlands have different connections to the fossil fuel industry, mainly with Royal Dutch Shell – guest lecturers, invitations to interviews and career events, funding for (greenwashing) research. We say it clearly: it is not ethical to promote and conduct research with one of the top 10 climate polluters in the world who have no real plan for phasing out from fossil fuels, and who commit violation of human rights and Indigenous rights. These ties legitimize the harmful doings of companies like Shell, improving their public perception and strengthening their influence – we don’t want to have any part in this!
